This past year Mike was selected as a Third-Team All CAA player. He concluded his JMU career with 1,009 receiving yards, 66 receptions and 14 touchdowns. It was only the second time in school history that a tight-end had 1,000 yards receiving in their career. Mike finished the season as the teams 2nd leading receiver with 438 yards on 25 receptions.
He averaged 17.5 yards per reception and had a team best 65 yard reception. Mike was 3rd on the team in scoring with 4 touchdowns; the highest touchdown total for the squad. He had 5 kickoff returns for 59 yards. Mike had his best day receiving against VMI when he snared 3 receptions for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. Against Maryland, Mike
put the NCAA on notice with 3 receptions for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns. His unique blend of size and speed made for great mismatches on the offensive side of the football. Mike also excelled as a blocker, paving the way for 1,985 yards in rushing for JMU. He accounted for 25% of his teams receiving yards on the season.
In 2008, Mike was his team’s third leading receiver from the tight-end position. He had 18 catches for 231 yards. Mike was 2nd on the team in touchdown receptions with five and he averaged 12.8 yards per catch. He demonstrated his ability to block and be a threat as a receiving tight-end. Mike’s best game was against William & Mary when he hauled in 3 receptions. He stepped up in the big games, having a scoring reception in the NCAA playoffs against Villanova. Mike had his longest reception of the season against Towson University, which was a 36 yarder. His
blocking opened holes for running backs that ran for a combined 3,959 yards.
